Rechargeable battery startup company ‘LiBEST’ announced on July 4th that they are selected as a participating company for ‘D-Unicorn Project’ which is hosted by Daejeon city.
‘D-Unicorn Project’ is a strategic project that Daejeon City prospects for promising start-ups in the region and support them to thrive into *Unicorns through development funds, commercialization, and supporting human resource training.
* Unicorns : Startup companies with a corporate value of more than 1 trillion won(KRW) and less than 10 years of establishment

Companies participating in the project will receive benefits such as funds (up to 65million KRW) for market analysis, R&D and commercialization funds (18million KRW), as well as consulting service by a dedicated PM, and loan support for policy funds (up to 65million KRW).
10 companies were selected in 3 industry domains (biomedical, wireless communication convergence and intelligent robot), and LiBest was selected as the wireless communication convergence.

Founded in 2016, LiBest is one of the few companies in Korea that can research, design and manufacture lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. Among start-up companies, LiBEST is the only company. The driving force for LiBest, as a newcomer, is securing the source technology of the flexibility in entire part of the battery.

Generally, a rechargeable battery is known as a fixed shape in a cylinder or rectangular type. Meanwhile, LiBEST’s rechargeable battery features changing the shape by rolling or bendin, and its intrinsic performance (output, lifespan, etc.) is properly exhibited even in that state. It also has the highest energy density among manufacturers of secondary batteries with similar concepts at home and abroad.

Kim Joo-seong, CEO of Libest, said, “The strength of RIVEST’s secondary batteries is that they have two incompatible characteristics: flexibility over the entire section and high energy density. I think that technology and growth potential have been objectively verified through this D-Unicorn project. In the short term, we want to expand research and production facilities in the Daejeon region to create jobs and develop new markets, and in the long term, we want to contribute to a virtuous cycle in the local community by expanding our business through global expansion.”

Meanwhile, LiBEST is currently in the process of verifying technology with a number of global wearable device manufacturers, and plans to exhibit various new secondary battery technologies developed in Korea by participating in CES in the US and MWC in Spain in 2023.
